ULAN BATOR, March 13 (Xinhua)-- Mongolia will immunize all 38,000 children aged 2-9 months in its capital Ulan Bator this year against pneumonia with three doses of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13), Mongolia's Health Ministry said Tuesday.
The ministry has ordered 110,000 doses of the vaccine through UNICEF, it said, adding that 35,000 doses have arrived and the remaining 75,000 will be available in the second quarter of this year.
Children receiving three doses of the vaccine will obtain immunity against pneumonia for 10 to 15 years.
The market price of this vaccine is 13-15 U.S. dollars a dose, while the UNICEF vaccine price is only 3.5 U.S. dollars, it said in a statement.
In 2019, the ministry aims to introduce the vaccine in all provinces nationwide.
