BANJUL, March 28 (Xinhua) -- The Gambia Commission for Refugees (GCR) will embark on a nationwide refugee verification exercise next month to enable them get accurate data on refugee status in the country.
The statement from GCR on Wednesday stated that the verification exercise will commence from the 3rd to 26th April.
"This exercise aims to verify all refugees in the Gambia to get an accurate data on refugees which will help the government to map out strategic plans for refugee protection in the Gambia," said the statement.
The exercise is supported by UNHCR at the following its approval of Gambia's appeal at a Geneva meeting in 2017.
Executive Committee meeting (EXCOM) was held in Geneva in 2017 for the verification of refugees in the Gambia.
The Gambia is still housing refugees from Sierra Leone, Liberia and those escaped from conflict in Southern Senegalese region, Casamance.
