PHNOM PENH, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A roundtable dialogue on new economy between Cambodia and China was held here on Sunday, focusing on the development of e-commerce, media and tourism.
Organized by China's Singmeng TMT Operation Center, the half-day forum brought together 60 people including Cambodian government officials and businesspeople from the two countries.
Cambodian Commerce Ministry secretary of state Chhuon Dara said the forum was a good chance for officials and businesspeople to meet and explore ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, investment and tourism.
"China is the biggest investor in Cambodia, and Chinese investment is very important for the development of Cambodia," he said at the opening of the roundtable dialogue.
"We are very pleased to see strong ties in economics, trade and investment between the two countries," Dara said. "I'd like to say that the Cambodian government always welcomes Chinese investors and is ready to facilitate the Chinese investment here."
The official said investing in Cambodia, foreign investors could own 100 percent of their investment in all fields, except the purchase of land that requires foreigners to possess only 49 percent of the investment, as 51 percent must be held by a Cambodian partner.
He said the Made-in-Cambodia products could be exported to many developed countries, particularly European countries, with duty-free and quota-free.
Meanwhile, Dara talked about the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China, saying that Cambodia fully supported this initiative because it would provide enormous benefits to Cambodia, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and other countries around the world.
At the forum, participants shared their experience and discussed opportunities and challenges in the development of telecommunications, e-commerce, media and tourism.
