BUDAPEST, June 19 (Xinhua) -- The Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) has dismissed Belgian coach Georges Leekens and has hired Italian Marco Rossi, MLSZ announced here on Tuesday in a statement on its official site.
The Belgian coach took his post on 30 October 2017 but failed to secure at least one victory ever since.
In four games, the Hungarians suffered three defeats and had one draw. They lost to Kazakhstan (2-3) and Scotland (0-1), had a draw with Belarus (1-1) and lost to Australia recently (1-2).
"Marco Rossi's coaching habits, judging by the MLSZ presidency, fits well with the possibilities of Hungarian football, which makes it possible to guide the Hungarian national team to a more efficient football," MLSZ said in the statement.
The federation said that it wanted Rossi to assemble a new successful team by 2018-2019.
The federation also said it terminated Leekens' contract in an amicable way.
The goal of the Hungarian team is to participate in the European Cup in 2020.
