TOKYO, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday, mirroring the Nasdaq Composite Index's rise overnight, with robust U.S. jobs data for December also contributing to an upbeat market mood.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 203.98 points, or 0.86 percent, from Friday to 23,918.51.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 11.53 points, or 0.61 percent, at 1,891.87.
Real estate, iron and steel and securities-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
Markets here were closed on Monday for a national holiday.
