BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's procurator-general and police chief have told prosecutors and police to work against gang crime.
The orders came as central authorities announced a new campaign against organized and gang crime and its protectors.
China's Procurator-General Cao Jianming said prosecutors should actively participate in the campaign, eradicate the conditions that lead to gang crime and set up a system to prevent gangs from being formed.
He also stressed the fight against secession, cults and interference from overseas in domestic affairs.
Minister of Public Security Zhao Kezhi, China's chief police officer, said that the political, economic and social conditions that foster gang crime should be eradicated.
Police should maintain the highest pressure on gang crimes, Zhao said.
