TOKYO, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks edged lower Wednesday morning following Wall Street's decline overnight, but losses were trimmed by buying of shares supported by robust corporate earnings results and solid industrial production data.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged 24.75 points, or 0.11 percent, lower from Tuesday to 23,267.22.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 2.94 points, or 0.16 percent, to 1,855.19.
Iron and steel, and real estate issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
