PYEONGCHANG, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Michelle Gisin joined her sister Dominique Gisin as only women from Switzerland to win gold in an Alpine skiing event in the past 24 years following her victory in combined event at PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games here on Thursday.

Sitting third after the downhill, Gisin clocked a best time of 2 minutes 20.90 seconds after downhill and slalom runs.

Her sister Dominique Gisin won the women's downhill in Sochi four years ago.

"There was never competition. It was the biggest moment of my life when she won that gold and I think today was one of the biggest moments of our lives, but her gold will forever be the biggest thing," said Gisin, reminiscent of her sister's gold in Sochi.

"Now we're going to celebrate and party really hard in our hometown Engelberg (Switzerland), but it has to wait because I've got three more weeks of World Cup skiing," she added.

American Alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin, slalom champion in Sochi and giant slalom gold medalist in PyeongChang, finished second, 0.97 seconds adrift Gisin.

Shiffrin became the third athlete from the United States to win a medal in at least three different Alpine skiing events at the Winter Games.

"For me, a silver medal is amazing. Also, coming away with two medals knowing that I could have come away with nothing is just incredible," commented Shiffrin, current overall World Cup leader.

Switzerland's Wendy Holdener, trailing Shiffrin on the second position on World Cup leaderboards, snatched the bronze medal.
