JALALABAD, Afghanistan, April 1 (Xinhua) -- At least four militants affiliated to the hardliner Islamic State (IS) group were killed and their attack to expand foothold in Haska Mina district in eastern Afghanistan has been failed, provincial police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqwal said Sunday.
"A group of IS militants attacked a police checkpoint in Haska Mina district late Saturday to strengthen their grip in the area, but police returned fire killing four attackers on the spot and forcing others to flee," Mashriqwal told Xinhua.
Two more militants were injured in the firefight which lasted for a while, the official added.
According to the official, no security personnel has been hurt in the fight.
IS militants who are active in Haska Mina and the neighboring Achin district haven't commented.
