HONG KONG, April 20 (Xinhua) -- China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government announced Friday to launch a low carbon living calculator to help the public assess their individual carbon emissions and turn to a more environment-friendly lifestyle.
According to the Environment Bureau of the HKSAR government, the Low Carbon Living Calculator comprises 14 simple multiple choice questions that can generally be completed within five minutes. After answering these questions and submitting necessary information, such as bills of electricity, water and other fuels, at a dedicated website, users can assess their individual carbon emissions in respect of clothing, food, living and travel in the past year.
The calculator offers low-carbon living tips on the behavioral changes required for leading a green lifestyle and reducing carbon emissions, such as to waste less, be energy conscious, conserve water, use more public transport and buy what one needs but not what one wants.
The Low Carbon Living Calculator helps raise public awareness of carbon emissions, thereby encouraging people to take action to reduce carbon emissions and contribute to combating climate change, a spokesman for the Environment Bureau said.
