MADRID, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Liga Santander club, Sevilla on Monday confirmed Pablo Machin as their new first team coach.
The Sevilla official website confirmed Machin has agreed a two-year-deal to coach the club after his excellent work at Girona which promoted to the Liga Santander two seasons ago and took to a 10th-place finish with 51 points in their first season in the Spanish top flight.
Machin is the first major appointment to be made by Joaquin Caparros, who himself guided Sevilla back into Europe at the end of the 2017-18 campaign after 3 wins and a draw from their last 4 matches of the season to earn them a seventh-place finish.
Machin's first task will be to ensure Sevilla qualify for the group stage of the Europa League, which won't be easy as they have to pass three qualification rounds, meaning their season will begin in July.
The 42-year-old coach is from the city of Soria in central Spain and thought to be one of the best young coaches in Spain. He places great importance on the defensive discipline of his sides, as well as their effectiveness from set pieces. No side scored as many goals from free kicks and corners last season as Girona, where he will be sorely missed. Enditem
