BERLIN, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Mainz have completed the transfer of defender Moussa Niakhate from French outfit FC Metz, the German Bundesliga club announced in an official statement on Sunday.
Mainz continue to bolster up their defence after the 22-year old has penned a five-year deal to stay with Mainz until June 2023.
"Those responsible have convinced me of the project in Mainz. I want to evolve here and at the same time help the team to play a good season," the new arrival told the club's official homepage.
Niakhate played since 2017 for FC Metz and made overall 35 competitive appearances.
"He is a very ambitious guy with a good character who will integrate quickly here. We are convinced that he will take the next step in the Bundesliga," Mainz' sporting director Rouven Schroeder said.
The defender is Mainz' fourth summer signing after Pierre Kunde, Philipp Mwene and Jean-Philippe Mateta. The "Nullfuenfer" completed the Bundesliga season 2017-2018 on the 14th place of the table.
