JAKARTA, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The torch for the 18th Asian Games arrived in Indonesia from India on Tuesday.
An Indonesian Air Force Boeing jet touched down at 8 am at a military base in the central Java city of Yogyakarta.
The torch was carried off the plane by Indonesian badminton legend Susy Susanti, who had been designated as the country's torch relay ambassador.
Yogyakarta governor Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee President Erick Thohir were among those present for the torch's arrival.
The flame was lit on Sunday in India's capital New Delhi, which hosted the 1st Asian Games in 1951.
The torch will now embark on a relay throughout Indonesia, passing through 53 cities in 18 provinces before finishing its journey in the capital Jakarta on August 15th. The first leg of the relay will be from Yogyakarta to Solo, another major Javanese city.
The 18th Asian Games will take place in Jakarta and Palembang from August 18 to September 2.
