SARAJEVO, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) will support Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in managing the migrations with 6 million euros (6.8 million U.S. dollars), the EU delegation in BiH said on Friday.
The European Commission has adopted a special measure on Friday for BiH to improve the capacity for identification, registration and referral of third-country nationals crossing the country's border.
The money will be used to "provide accommodation and basic services for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants and to strengthen the capacity for border control and surveillance," said a statement published on the official website of the EU delegation.
The EU believes the money will contribute to the prevention of and fight against the trafficking of human beings as well.
In June 2018, the European Commission allocated 1.5 million euros to BiH in order to address the humanitarian needs of migrants.
"Since 2007, the European Commission has been providing assistance to BiH in the area of migration and border management for an amount of 24.6 million euros," the statement read.
BiH authorities are struggling to cope with the increased influx of migrants whose number exceeded 10,100 since Jan. 1, 2018.
