BUENOS AIRES, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Carlos Izquierdoz scored with a first-half header as defending champions Boca Juniors overcame Argentinos Juniors 1-0 in the Superliga Argentina on Saturday.
Izquierdoz sent a powerful header past goalkeeper Lucas Chavez after an Edwin Cardona corner at the Diego Maradona Stadium.
After a slugglish start to the season, Boca have now won four consecutive matches across all competitions and are just a point behind leaders Atletico Tucuman in the 26-team Superliga standings.
Meanwhile, River Plate jumped to sixth after a Rodrigo Mora brace fired them to a 4-1 home win over San Martin. Camilo Mayada and Gonzalo Martinez were also on target at the Monumental Stadium while Facundo Erpen struck for the visitors.
In other matches on Saturday, Independiente won 3-0 at home to Colon while Newell's Old Boys drew 0-0 at Belgrano.
