BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Nineteen suspects have been arrested and nearly 1,000 tickets have been confiscated by the Beijing railway police since Sept. 1, as its campaign against ticket scalping intensifies.
In a single case, a total of 578 tickets were hoarded by one suspect and later confiscated. The suspect had planned to sell the tickets at a higher price to holiday passengers.
The campaign launched on Sept. 1 will last 40 days until Oct. 10, during which the police will put train stations and surrounding areas under closer surveillance.
Ticket scalping and counterfeiting are major problems around public holidays as the demand for tickets is high.
