BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- A second-half own goal from Nacho Fernandez handed Estudiantes a 1-0 home victory over River Plate in the Superliga Argentina on Saturday.

The hosts took the lead in the 50th minute when a Gaston Fernandez free-kick took a deflection off Nacho Fernandez's shoulder and looped into the far corner of German Lux's goal.

The result at Estadio Cuidad de La Plata left River eighth in the 26-team standings while Estudiantes rose to 12th.

In the western city of Mendoza, Godoy Cruz beat Atletico Tucuman 1-0 to climb to fourth in the standings. Despite the result, Atletico Tucuman remained second, four points behind leaders Racing Club.

And in the seaside city of Mar del Plata, Banfield overcame hosts Aldosivi 4-1 to jump to ninth.
