BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Racing Club stretched their lead on the top of the Superliga Argentina standings on Sunday with a 1-0 home victory over Newell's Old Boys.
The hosts took the lead on the stroke of halftime when Jonathan Cristaldo sent a superb lunging header into the far corner of Alan Aguerre's goal after a corner.
Racing defended resolutely thereafter to secure their eighth win from 11 matches this season. The home victory at the Cilindro handed the club a seven-point lead over second-placed Atletico Tucuman.
Meanwhile, Emanuel Gigliotti netted a brace as Independiente rose to 10th with a 2-0 win at Argentinos Juniors. The 31-year-old striker now has 11 goals from 10 matches.
In other matches on Sunday, Colon drew 1-1 at Rosario Central, San Martin Tucuman secured a 2-0 home victory over San Martin San Juan and Talleres Cordoba won 1-0 at San Lorenzo.
