ALGIERS, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday in Algiers condemned the interference of the United States in Venezuela.
"The recognition by the United States and other countries of the self-proclaimed president shows that the U.S. and those countries are involved in this issue, which has caused chaos in Venezuela while creating two authorities which would likely destabilize the country," Lavrov said during his two-day visit to Algeria.
He urged "the international community to help Venezuelans to engage in dialogue rather than violence," adding that Russia is ready to work with other conscientious nations to help Caracas to launch national dialogue.
U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that Washington had recognized the opposition leader Juan Guaido as the nation's "interim president," after Nicolas Maduro was inaugurated as leader of the Latin American country earlier in January.
