DHAKA, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Himsagar, one of the best mango varieties found in Bangladesh in terms of sweetness and flavor, has been registered as the country's Geographical Indication (GI) product as per guidelines of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Bangladeshi Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Sunday handed over the GI certificate to the country's Horticulture Research Center.
In February 2017, Bangladesh applied for GI certification for the mango variety.
According to the WIPO, GI is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.
Himsagar is the third Bangladeshi product that got the GI tag after Hilsa fish and women wear "Jamdani" saree.
