JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- A local municipality official was killed and another injured after unidentified armed men opened fire in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar overnight, provincial government said Monday.
"The incident occurred in Torkham bordering town, Muhmand Dara district, roughly at 7:00 p.m. (local time) Sunday. The victims were on their way home after having diner in a local restaurant," the government said in a statement.
The assailants used silenced weapons in the latest targeted killing, according to the statement.
The injured, who also works in Torkham municipality, is receiving treatment in a local hospital, the statement said.
Provincial Governor Shah Mohmoud Miyakhil has condemned the attack and ordered the security forces to arrest and bring to justice the perpetrators, the statement added.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
