KABUL, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- More than 100 militants have been killed following military operations in 11 of 34 Afghan provinces, the country's Ministry of Defense said Thursday.
"Up to 103 terrorists were killed, 34 wounded and eight others arrested during four military operations, 69 special operations and 18 airstrikes conducted by Afghan Air Force since early Wednesday," the ministry said in a statement.
In one incident, 34 militants, including a Taliban shadow district chief for Bakhab district named Timor Shah, were killed and 18 militants wounded after airstrike targeted militants' hideouts in northern Sari Pul province, the statement added.
The air force also conducted 94 supportive flights during the period, it said.
Afghan troops intensified their offensive against Taliban and other insurgent groups as the Taliban militant group has been attempting to take territory and consolidate its positions during the winter.
Taliban militants have not made a comment on the report yet.
