BEIJING, March 22 (Xinhua) -- China has made solid progress in cyberspace management as well as related technology and industries over the past year.
The country has improved its cyberspace security through strengthened regulations and targeted campaigns to crack down on online pornography, fabricated information and personal information infringement.
Supervision over internet-based industries has also been strengthened, with regulations on financial and blockchain information services released in December 2018 and January 2019, respectively.
As of November 2018, China had more than 144,000 patent applications related to artificial intelligence (AI), which accounted for 43.4 percent of all such applications across the world, more than any other country.
A number of China's 5G technology plans have met international standards, and China is among the world's leading countries in 5G technology, both in terms of development speed and quality, according to the 43rd report on China's internet development released by the China Internet Network Information Center last month.
Last year, China removed domestic data roaming fees and reduced several other telecommunication charges, while the overall internet speed was boosted.
In the next five to ten years, China plans to build the world's largest Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)-based network for commercial use, which is expected to realize the in-depth integration of next-generation internet technology with every aspect of society.
The Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission came into being in March 2018, with the purposes of strengthening the centralized and unified leadership of the Communist Party of China Central Committee over cyberspace, and boosting responsibilities for improving decision making and overall planning in this regard.
