SHANGHAI, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese sprinter Su Bingtian has set a goal of securing qualification to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games at Saturday's Shanghai Diamond League event.
Su, 29, will compete in the men's 100m race, the final event in Saturday's Diamond League series.
"I improved each time I came here to compete. This year I hope I can run under 10.05s, to reach the entry standard for the Tokyo Olympics," said Su, whose personal best of 9.91s is an Asian record.
Saturday's race will represent Su's first 100m race this season, after he missed April's Asian Championships in Doha due to an abdominal injury.
He appeared in last Sunday's IAAF World Relays in Yokohama, rallying with his teammates to take fourth place in the 4x100m relay.
"My waist didn't feel comfortable after the race but I don't believe it will affect me in Shanghai," he said.
Su's relay teammate Xie Zhenye, who has a personal best of 9.97s, will also run in Shanghai's 100m race, and is hopeful of reaching the qualifying standard for the Tokyo Olympics as well.
