BELGRADE, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of high school kids from Serbia demonstrated their knowledge of Chinese language and culture at the the final round of the 12th "Chinese Bridge" contest for non-Chinese secondary school students in Belgrade on Saturday.
The competition started at the Fifth Belgrade Gymnasium, where kids from several Serbian cities gathered in attempt to qualify for the finals of "Chinese Bridge".
Audience, comprised of Serbian and Chinese teachers and students, was greeted by Yuan Jigang, who is in charge of education at the Chinese embassy.
He reminded that Chinese language will from this September become an official subject in Serbian high schools, thanks to the cooperation with the Serbian ministry of education.
"Besides political and economic cooperation, people-to-people exchange is of immense importance to us. People that are here to demonstrate their knowledge of Chinese language and culture will have an active role in the future cooperation between China and Serbia," he said.
After the competition, Vanja Trkulja, a 17-year-old student from the Serbia Karlovci Grammar School, won. She will represent Serbia in the final world-wide contest to be held in China later this year.
