NANCHANG, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Trawlers left the docks in waves, eager to get back on the water as the fishing ban ended Thursday at noon on Poyang Lake in east China's Jiangxi Province.
Starting from 2002, the annual fishing ban began on March 20 on the country's biggest freshwater lake and put a lid on any form of fishing for three months to protect aquatic resources and biodiversity.
Local fishery authorities poured 26,000 kg of fish fry and 7,500 kg of young crabs in the lake in early March.
Jiangxi has banned fishing in all aquatic life conservation areas in the province this year. The Jiangxi section of the Yangtze River and Poyang Lake will ban fishing all year round in 2020.
