BUCHAREST, June 20 (Xinhua) -- The Romanian government approved on Thursday a 5G strategy for the country, targeting the launch of the new generation services in 2020.
The 5G strategy for Romania is delivering an action plan with concrete tasks and deadlines for deployment, targeting the launch of 5G services in 2020 and 5G coverage of all urban hubs and major land transport routes by 2025, according to a press statement released by the Ministry of Communications and Information Society.
"The government has set an ambitious schedule to implement the next generation of mobile communications technology by passing a 5G strategy for Romania and projecting the next decades of communications developments," said Minister Alexandru Petrescu in the statement, stressing that the new 5G technology will create a connectivity environment that is far superior to the 4G and will significantly contribute to inclusion and boost economic productivity.
According to a recent interview with Xinhua, Sorin Grindeanu, president of the Nation Agency for Management and Administration in Communications, said that Romania is to hold the tender for 5G licenses in the second part of this year, and the licenses will be handed to the winners until Dec. 15. The winners of the licenses could use their spectrum starting with the first day of 2020.
"5G will start a real industrial revolution for Romania, a technological momentum and a chance to accelerate the rhythm of reducing the developing gaps still present in Romania," Grindeanu said.
