HANGZHOU, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in east China's Zhejiang Province have required motor fishing boats to be installed with anti-pollution equipment to fight against ocean pollution.
In the coastal city of Zhoushan, ship-mending factories are busy installing oil-collecting facilities in motor fishing vessels, in accordance with provincial government regulation.
According to the regulation, by the end of 2020, motor fishing vessels 35 meters long and above operating in coastal waters must be installed with the facilities against pollution, as most of the vessels currently employ diesel oil motors, and oily waters often leak into the ocean during sailing.
The facilities can separate the oil from the oily water and collect the leaking oil in a tank. In this way, the water the vessels discharge into the ocean is contamination-free.
By the end of June, 686 fishing boats in Zhoushan have been installed with the facilities, accounting for one-third of the city's total.
