BEIJING, July 23 (Xinhua) -- "The Grand Mansion Gate" or "Da Zhai Men," a Peking opera adapted from a popular Chinese TV drama, will be staged at Guangzhou Opera House, south China's Guangdong Province, from July 30 to 31.
The opera, created by Guo Baochang, director of the original TV drama, premiered in Beijing in June 2017.
The original TV drama "The Grand Mansion Gate" tells of the Bai family in Beijing, an eminent household of traditional Chinese pharmacists, and their ups and downs through one of the most politically turbulent periods of modern Chinese history, spanning from the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) up until World War II.
Aired in 2001, the TV drama was well received by audiences and is among the most celebrated TV dramas in China.
