BEIJING, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The China National Peking Opera Company (CNPOC) has offered audiences in Karamay, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a chance to feel the charm of Peking opera.
A troupe from the CNPOC visited a number of places in Karamay, holding classes on Peking opera and performing classic pieces for local Peking opera lovers.
The events were greeted with cheers and applause from the audiences. "Watching the performance is a really good experience, just like tasting richly-flavored wine," said an audience member. "The events will make us more confident and aware of our culture," said another.
"The audiences here are keen on Peking opera," noted Yuan Huiqin, vice president of the CNPOC. "We hope that the performance will let more people in Karamay feel the profundity and unique charm of Chinese culture so as to promote cultural identity and ethnic integration."
